So Jason, Brooke and I have been out of town for sometime and It has been crazy. Last week I was lucky enough to volunteer at a camp for teens with epilepsy. The camp was called Kamp Kaleidoscope. The staff I had the chance to work with were just awesome as well as the campers. It was so fun to see each teenage just so full of life. Some of these teens do not get the chance to go to camp anywhere else due to there epilepsy, but here they are able to just open up and be who they are inside and not just that kid with seizures. Some of the teens had never meet anyone else who has seizures until they come to camp. Then are lucky enough to stay friends a really long time. I thought this was a great oppurtunity for myself. Since I started having seizures at the age of 15. It was nice to be able to tell them I know what it is like to be a teenager going through this and to not know anyone else who really understands what it is like.
I think that I learned as much if not more than the campers did. I always thought that no one else could really understand what it was like to go through seizures unless you had had one before. I think that my views were changed on that. Some of the staff had seizures and some did not. After talking with some of them that did not, they really did understand how this could really change your life. The campers and the other staff really changed mine this week. I can't wait until next year and I am looking forward to helping out the Epilepsy Foundation as much as I can.
I hope that this does not ramble to much or is not to hard to follow.... it is hard to write, think and chase after a 15month old. ;-)
Here is a picture of some of the staff!
